When Freddy Met Missy

Melissa's Story:

I first met Freddy many moons ago at a gathering in Pennsylvania but it wasn't until a camping trip two years ago that our relationship developed.  My friend Deb and I drove five long hours through a thunderstorm and much traffic without air conditioning to a remote corner of Long Island. There we met our friend Juan and a group of brothers and sisters trying to put up tents for a weekend of camping in the country.  Freddy was reintroduced to us along with many friends but there was little chance for talk since it was pouring and 11pm at night.

The next day dawned clear and sunny. Deb and I ate breakfast and I made coffee using a kettle and french press. As the other friends were preparing their own excursions, Freddy came over and played monopoly with us.  His warmth, considerate hospitality and sense of humor put us at ease. Soon we were talking and joking around like old friends. He made Deb and I feel comfortable and we enjoyed that weekend.  I felt drawn to him and wanted to know him better so we exchanged phone numbers.

But, the adventure did not end when we parted; on the way home Deb and I had a harrowing experience! We stopped at the library because it was so hot and my car had no A/C and we needed to take a break. When we returned to the car I noted that my portable CD player was mysteriously absent. But, I continued, undaunted and unaware.

When we got home to unpack after such a long trip, we found we had been ROBBED! In restrospect our belongings weren't the only things stolen. Freddy had stolen my heart.

What an adventure it as been; the greatest adventure of my life!

The Tent Melissa and Debbie Stayed In that Fateful Weekend!

Freddy's Story

It was a beautiful sunny August weekend when I met the love of my life. She was with a friend and roommate Debbie playing monopoly. I noticed them because they were the only White girls among a big group of Hispanic brothers and sisters. They didn't speak the language and Melissa only knew a couple of people there. I was one of them.

I met Melissa some five years earlier through another person, but had lost contact with her until that day, August 2, 2002. We went on a camping trip that weekend (August 2-4) in beautiful Long Island, New York. Ironically, I almost didn't make this trip because of work! I didn't know I would be able to make it until like three days before the trip.

Thankfully, I got those days off and I'm so glad I did! Otherwise all of this wouldn't be happening. I went over to where they were and began to talk to them and played monopoly and, of course, I won.

The next morning was a beautiful day for swimming. A group of us went to the beach. It was a rocky beach. One needed to wear sandals to walk to the waters, or just make funny faces while walking bare footed through the rocky sand to go to the waters. Melissa and Debbie also joined us later on.

Melissa needed her coffee. She loves coffee. All kinds of coffee! Hazelnut, French vanilla, coffee with chocolate, anything that contains coffee is enough to make her happy. I'm keeping that pantry full to the brim with coffee! Anyways, she made coffee and offered me some. I was trying to make my own but I was having trouble with my old coffee maker. It took me a mighty long time to make. I even got burned in the process.

When it was time to leave, Melissa expressed her thanks for keeping them company and making them feel at ease. We exchanged numbers and the rest is history!
